FRANCE - ALSACE

YANNICK MECKERT

Introduced to the world of wine in his early years by his Burgundian mother and Alsatian father, Yannick decided very quickly to take his own path while renouncing to join the family estate, and to make it his way.
Throughout his international travels, he gained a better experience in the winemaking world and progressively built his craft and own vision for what was next.

Now established in Rosheim, Yannick farms a total three and half hectares close to the village of Obernai, as well as getting a little négoce from a friend in the region.
Working with classic local varieties, planted over soils which vary from clay to limestone, or even blue shale : the focus is to represent the terroir and the potential of each grapes.

Respecting nature and its habitat, it has always been his representation of farming, with wilder fields by letting herbs, grass and flowers grow.
The cellar work is precise and focus : different methods of vinification to express the best of each cuvée. Gentle extraction and long ageing in various vessels such as barrels or amphora.

The wines are touched by great freshness, unique perfume and superb structure.

FRANCE - BURGUNDY

DOMAINE DE LA CHAPPE

The Domaine sits on the top of a hill just west of the city of Tonnerre which is located near Auxerre in northern Burgundy.

It is less known than its prestigious neighbor Chablis (a few km to the East) or the Beaune area at a much bigger distance further south but has similarly roots in the wine history.

The Farm de la Chappe is a multi-crop farm, Vincent's father replanted vines some 30 years ago.

Today, he and his wife keep running the wheat farm but his son Vincent took over the 2,5 hectares of vineyards in 2003.

He turned the vineyards to organic farming although his father was already working on a pretty traditional way, and he extended his vinification capacity by purchasing organic grapes in the area. Today the Domaine works with almost 6 hectares, including the purchased fruit.

Especially in 2016 after repetitive problem with the frost which accentuate the scarcity of available grapes. Then he found the chance to find grapes in another region further south.

All the wines got a name with a funny portrait-like label, which are invented names except for André which is a reference to his father and Joseph, his grand-grandfather.

Working within just under 4 hectares, organic since day one, it has the beneficial effect of being just north of the Kvirila river, which helps them for irrigation and also gives a very fertile environment for the estate.

What made Makaridze so special to us is the way they represent Georgia : the combination of direct press wines and long ageing in qvevris, which provides an incredible range of unique wines made of local varieties such as Tsitska, Tsolikouri and Otskhanuri Sapere.
With an average of 30 up to 80 years old vines we can expect character, concentration and incredible minerality.
